The instruments
Orchestra is a year-long class available to Lovinggood students. The only beginning level class is for 6th graders, so 6th grade is the time to join! 7th and 8th grade orchestra build upon the skills we learn in previous years, and offer up new opportunities like advanced groups or trips.
The orchestra includes the string instruments that are played with a bow, but there are also times when we pluck the strings. Our instruments usually make people think of Classical or Fiddle music, but we also learn to play pop, rock, jazz, blues, and movie music.

How often is orchestra class?
Orchestra is a year-long class that meets every day during the school day.
Do I need to buy an instrument?
It is recommended to rent an instrument from a local music store. The school also has some instruments that can be loaned during the school year. These are first-come-first-served and not guaranteed, so please communicate if you have a concern.

When can I join orchestra?
In 6th grade only. You cannot join orchestra as a beginner in 7th or 8th grade
Do I have to already be a musician to join orchestra?
No, in fact the majority of 6th graders are beginners on their instrument!
Regular Performances and Trips
*6th grade Jamboree concert: combined with the 6th gr. orchestras of Lost Mountain, McClure, and Durham Middle Schools!
*Fall and Spring concerts yearly
*7th and 8th grade District LGPE concerts
*8th grade theme park trip with LMS band and chorus
Extra Opportunities
*Optional groups before school
*Tutoring or practice time before school
*Small-group instructional visits from professional musicians
*Collaborations with Hillgrove High School
*Student representatives in county-wide Honor Orchestra and in the state-wide All-State Orchestra
